The power of aluminium Aluminium has a number of different properties; one of them is its strong affinity for oxygen. This property is exploited in chemical processes and the manufacture of a wide range of products. Atomised aluminium is excellent for use in processes such as metallurgical reduction, and atomised aluminium and flakes from Benda-Lutz are employed in the manufacture of explosives. Explosives – pyrotechnic products Atomised aluminium with a protected surface and aluminium flakes (dusting or non-dusting as Depuval) are used extensively in the manufacture of explosives.
Thanks to controlled combustion times of the aluminium powder, its use can be precisely co-ordinated with the specific explosive or pyrotechnic purpose.

Depuval, in contrast to normal aluminium powder, is non-dusting. This is achieved through the addition of a maximum of 0.2% of an inert material in a special process. The basic properties of the aluminium powder are not altered as a result. Depuval, similar to aluminium paste, is safer to incorporate than conventional aluminium powder. The difference is that it contains no solvents and can therefore be employed universally. Thanks to dust-free processing, no impurities are produced, which increases the safety level. |
